14 COMPONENTS OF JYOTISH for identifying and developing the TOPICS for discussions at seminars (SYNOPSIS OF SUBJECT MATTER)
- COMPONENT ONE -
12 SIGNS (eg. Ascendants) & element, quality, gender, planetary lord, animal, phrase, characteristics … also friendships to lord eg. trine lords are friends
Intial Reading 1 = TRIPOD signs of Ascendant (personna), Moon (inner life) & Sun (outer life)
=> Along with Atmakaraka Ak and Nodes revels foundational strength of chart (as well as evolution). Measure if Moon is as strong as the Ascendant.
The harmony between natural Atma Karaka planet (the Sun) and the special Chara Atma Karaka position attained by a planet, represents the unity of purpose between the permanent nature of the individual, his soul (Sun), and the course earmarked for him in the present birth (Ak).
Causal Body
i) Nodes = Habits & talents from past lives (notably Kethu)
Ak = Spiritual goal & lesson (King of the Horoscope - determined by planet in highest degree in a sign or Rahu in lowest degree in a sign)
Astral Body
ii) Moon & Amk in Rasi & Navamsa = inner life/personality
Note: Moon reveals a lot about the "humour" and temperament of a person. Look at it's position in Nakshatra, Navamsa & Rasi signs with aspects to it. eg. Moon in mutable signs in Rasi & Navamsa with aspects from benefics such as Jupiter would create a cheerful, sanguine temperament.
Physical Plane - Body/Head/Health
iii) Sun = outer life/vitality/individuality (Karaka for Ascendant)
Ascendant = Intelligence & Personna (with PK & AL revealing projection of talent and image)
Consider thorough analysis of Ascendant 1st having understood the characteristics of the 12 Ascendants (eg. Yogakaraka planet, bhadaka - 11th for moveable, 9th for fixed and 7th for common Ascendant, etc).
Also relationship of lords to each Ascendant and its Ascendant lord => eg.friendly lords to Ascendant lord (trinal) vs unfriendly ones; also exaltation and debilitation signs of Ascendant lord. Do the same for all house lords of respective Ascendants to get some basic fundamentals of how Ascendant differ due to their lordship.
Sudarshan includes Moon & Sun as Ascendants in descending relative priority after Lagna Ascendant. Note inter-relationship of 3 Ascendants (Asc, Moon & Sun – lords and aspects to each other and distance from each other and house lord and other planets involvements) Esp. note Ak
Other Ascendants include: Rasi lagna, Paka Lagna (Ascendant lord position), Arudha (Maya) Lagna (used also for all houses & planets), (Nav)amsa Lagna, Varada lagna, Hora Lagna

http://www.lightonvedicastrology.com/phpBB3_0/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=10608
http://shrifreedom.org/jyotishALhouses5.shtml
Note planets 3rd or 6th from AL reveal progress. ie. malefics there give worldy progress and beneifics spiritual progress but effect reverse if planets are weak or debilitated. Remember AL reveals the illusion of the chart and person (how they are perceived in the world)
NAVAMSA Lagna/Ascendant
Note Navamsa Sign, no. of Navamsa's into a Rasi Ascendant, no. of padas into a Nakshatra, planets in Navamsa lagna, lord of Navamsa etc...

- COMPONENT TWO -
9 PLANETS : Sun & Moon 2 luminaries, 2 nodal ecliptic points, 5 plants (5 elements)
The 9 planets can be applied for 3 types of KARAKAS (indicators) depending on applications:-
i)Sthira karakas are governed by Shiva (Tama Guna) - The Destroyer and should be used for determining death of near & dear ones including relatives and demolition of relationships with them.
Application of STHIRA Karakas
Sun/Venus (stronger): Father
Moon/Mars (stronger): Mother
Mars: younger siblings, brother-in-law and sister-in-law
Mercury: Maternal relatives (uncles and aunts)
Jupiter: Husband, paternal grandparents and other paternal
relatives (uncles and aunts)
Venus: Wife, mother-in-law & maternal grandparents
Saturn: Elder brothers
[Note: Parasara gave sons also to Saturn. Moreover, Parasara took
8 sthira karakas.]
ii)Chara Karakas are governed by Vishnu (Satwa Guna) - The Sustainer and should be considered for spiritual growth & progress. They provide vital information about soul's journey & progress as well as specific relationships (ie. guide, mother, father, children, enemies, spouse)
Application of CHARA Karakas (in order of highest longitude in a sign)
Ak - King/Soul of chart, Amk - Counsel/Mind/Career, Bk - Guru?/Siblings, Mk - Mother, Pik and Pk - Father and Children, Gk - Relatives/Enemies, Dk - Spouse
Also: 7 or 8 Jaimini Chara karakas are used depending on whether there are any planets in same the same degree of a 30 degree arc. eg. if there are 2 planet in same degrees then 8 karakas are used (ie. include Rahu in the jaimini karakas). Otherwise only 7 are used (without Rahu)
http://vedicastrologer.org/articles/c_karaka.pdf
iii)Naisargika Karakas are governed by Brahma (Raja Guna) - The Creator & should be used for all purposes' basically for Phalita jyotish.
Application of NAISARGIKA Karakas
Similar to Sthira karakas except that father = Sun & Mother = Moon. Also used more generally for all significators ie. not just relationships eg. Sun = father, gold, spine, temples, politicians, power etc...
Note: (Parasara)brahma impersonal naisarga karakas (planetary indicators) vs (Jaimini)vishnu personal chara karakas (planetary indicators)eg. Sun vs Ak for Soul/Atmakaraka, Moon vs Amk for Mind etc...... vs Sthira Siva karakas for death
Initial Reading 2 = ANGULAR natural benefics vs malefics to Rasi Ascendent (Note that North Indian chart is useful against the South Indian to quickly see the angular position of planets)
Note: natural and temporal status of planets ie. beneifc vs malefic, guna and element, separative planets, effect of retrogression, combustion
Note: friendship between planets:- see component on (after) "aspect" = The friendship rule
Also, generally, planets do well in friendly signs by lordship and negatively in enemies signs.

http://www.scribd.com/doc/490026/Aprakash-Grahas-Upagrahas-Pranapada
OUTER PLANETS & ASTEROIDS (Western Astrology): Uranus, Neptune, Pluto, Chiron, Pallas, Ceres, Vesta & Juno http://www.astrologycom.com/aster.html
- COMPONENT THREE -
12 HOUSES (4 kendra angles of head/heart/others/career, 4 goals (moksha houses, artha houses, kama houses, dharma houses), upachaya, succedent, dusthana etc. with their different group and implications; ie. note deeper esoteric meaning of houses:-
Houses of Mysterious Depth = 2nd, 6th, 8th & 12th (mixture of artha & moksha houses) ie. Dusthana or Vipreet Raja Yoga
Houses of Spirituality = 1st, 5th & 9th (Dharma houses)
Houses of Materiality = 3rd, 7th & 11th (Kama houses)
Cardinal Houses of Manifestation = 1st (Head/Body) & 7th (Field) axis, and final axis of 4th house (Hiranyagarbha/Womb) & 10th house (Karma/World)
Note: Moksha houses can be equated to Buddhist concepts of pure Mind (4th house) with 8th & 12th houses as "bardo" transitional states. 8th house is the concept of purgatory and 12th with the "after-life". With regards to healing, 8th house with the "pain-body" and the 12th house with regressional states, leading back to the Pure Mind (4th house), once the mind is free of tendencies or thought patterns. In addition, houses can be related to the "Gunas", with "artha" houses related to the "tamo" guna; "kama" houses to the "raja" guna; "dharma" houses to the "satwa" guna & finally to the "moksha" houses that deal with transcendence of the gunas.
Intial Reading 3 = LORDSHIP – Chart Pattern/Depositorship (quick way to remember chart) .. also useful to discern western astrological approach to identify configurations and planetary spread. Also important exercise in spotting general patterns and yogas quickly. Remember that Moolatrikona lordship has greater power than other ownership sign unless planets in the other sign, ie. Temporal Lordhsip. Kendra Pati Dosha etc.. Lastly, final depositorship (house & sign) can reveal a lot about chart (as well as aspects to it). It's position from Moon and Sun as well as Ascendant and involvement of Ascendant lord should be noted.
Note benefic lordship (lord of 9th, 5th & 1st or "natural malefic but temporal angular benefic") VS malefic lordship (lord of 6th/11th, 8th/3rd, 12th or "natural benefic but temporal angular benefic).
Dipositorship Confluences ie. depositorship pattern in Nakshatra vs pattern in Navamsa vs depositorship pattern in Rasi chart.
Also remember to note the positions of planetary lords of houses in the rasi chart transferred to the Navamsa. ie. sign's lord position in Navamsa (with aspects to it, ie. benefic or malefic).
Bhavat Bhavam Rule (house distances repeated) … eg. 4th from 4th is the 7th and is another important house that deals with happiness. Note, that 6-8 relations are generally the worse as opposed to trinal or angular relationships between lords
Bhava (confusing component in Jyotish) – divides up a chart according to where houses start in a sign (ie. Sri Pati mid-house vs western Placidus, koch systems etc.). For learning, it is simpler to apply the whole sign as house and to not consider the bhava chakra until later, once other parts of vedic astrology are mastered.
Generally, this helps in applying "yogas" to rasi chakra rather than nuances that apply to planets in different houses according to the bhava chakra.
Lastly, note natural karakas for houses eg. 1st = Sun, 2nd = Jupiter, 3rd = Mars, 4th = Moon & Mercury, 5th = Jupiter & Sun, 6th = Mars & Saturn, 7th = Venus or Jupiter, 8th = Saturn, 9th = Sun & Jupiter, 10th = Sun, Mercury & Jupiter, 11th = Jupiter, 12th = Saturn

- COMPONENT FOUR -
TYPES of ASPECTS
i.a) Planetary (Graha) aspects & Orbs (100%, 75%, 50%, 25% & special full aspects of Jupiter 5 & 9, Rahu 5 & 9 & 12, Saturn 3 & 10 & Mars 4 & 8)
Initial Reading 4: = ASPECTS to own signs or planets in own sign /exaltation also used to reveal general strength of chart. Note that natural nature (malefic ie. Saturn vs benefic ie. Jupiter) on a final depositorship planet can reveal an overall influence on the chart.
GENERAL NOTE (about graha aspects): Most astrologers use graha aspects in divisional charts as well as the rasi chart. Some do not use them due to the spatial nature of graha aspects ie. that project planetary force and argue should not apply to divisional which are based on harmonics.
Other Related Aspects
b)"HEMMIN IN" of planets (good or bad)
c) effect of aspect by SEPARATIVE PLANETS (Saturn, Kethu & 12th lord),
d) COMBUSTIONS,
e) MULTIPLE CONJUNCTIONS,
f) PLANETARY WAR (planet in lower part of same degree wins and becomes more powerful),
g) RETROGRESSION on previous sign,
h) effect of aspects from PLANETS TO OTHER PLANETS IN SPECIFIC SIGNS (ie. read the classic text, "Sarvali")
i) SAMBANDA (indirect association or aspect)
=> "exhanges between lords" is also a powerful type of aspect called PARIVATANA
=> by Navamsa Tuya rasi/Rasi Tulya Navamsa ie. planets in same sign, VARGOTOMMA
=> Rasi sign aspects (to be covered next).
The following is an example of conjunctions:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Conjunction_(astronomy_and_astrology)#2011
If two planets are in combination in the Rasi and Navamsa and in particular if they are in same degree then the following results may accrue. This is mentioned in the text Phaladeepika.
1)Sun and Moon - Skilfull
2)Sun and Mars - Powerful, Harsh, Sinful
3)Sun and Mercury - Intellectual,Literary ability.
4)Sun and Jupiter - Cruel and Helpful
5)Sun and Venus - Martial
6)Sun and Saturn - Skillful in pottery
7)Sun and Rahu - Unconventional form of working,Unfavourable to the father.
8)Sun and Kethu - Highly developed soul,Great spiritual Capacity.
ii. Sign (rasi) aspects (Rule 1 = planets in fixed and cardinal sign always aspect each other, except for planets in signs adjacent. Rule 2 = planets in mutable sign aspect each other, ie. planets in other mutable signs)
GENERAL NOTE (about sign aspects): There is much discrepancy amongst astrologers with regard to using rasi sign aspects in chart readings. Most astrologers use them in the Rasi chart, and for all aspects; whether applying a planet as a Naisargika or a Chara karakas. Personally, I tend to emphasize rasi sign aspects in divisional charts, especially with the use of Chara karakas. With regards to "Yogas", some astrologers include sign aspects for all "Yogas" involving the Rasi chart and divisionals. I tend to give emphasis to them for "Yogas" following Jaimini principles.
iii. Argala (good or bad obstruction) Planets 2, 4 or 11 from planet or house form an argala (good or bad)on that planet/house. These can be blocked for better or worse by planets in the same houses but in the opposite direction ie. 12, 10, 3. Planets 5th and 9th away become secondary argalas whilst many malefics 3rd away become tertiary arglas. Also note angular relationships between planets is a strengthening aspect
http://www.oldsite.esotericteaching.org/initiate/bhakti-vaibhava/jyotish/parasara-hora-sastra/planets-and-signs/argala-and-karakas/554-formation-of-argala
http://www.scribd.com/doc/48582603/Argala
iv. Asthavarga (projection of planetary force relative to each other to the 12 signs) ie. In each sign max of 8 points adding up to average about 24 being projected to a sing. Therefore > than 30 is considered high and < 24 is low. v.
v. Western Aspects & Configuration
http://www.skyscript.co.uk/aspects2.html
Orbs, Mid-points, grand trines and crosses, T-square, finger of god, kites, mystic rectangle, bucket splay, quadrants etc
Note: compare western generalized aspects vs vedic specialized eg. 90 degrees = Mars = dynamic and 120 degrees = Jupiter = harmonious but western consider all 90 difficult and 120 harmonious
Also note: Tajika & Lal Kitab on Aspects (similar to Western principles)
Compare friendly aspects of trines and sextiles to difficult aspects of squares and oppositions to 6/8 relationships and ineffective 2/12 dependent aspects
Lastly, note that western astrology tends to focus on aspects and configurations. These can be included within vedic astrology. In fact, they already are, but vedic astrology uses divisionals more to identify patterns and it a more complex system which starts with a "big picture" approach based on greater assumptions given by the rishis whereas western astrology focuses on specifics first (ie. orbs of aspect). However, Vedic grants greater orbs (signs) before looking at the specific orb within a rasi chart. Thus, when it comes to special configurations such as a kite, mystic rectangle, grand trine etc. Vedic astrology can still use these to identify them from sign positions and then see how "perfect" they are by seeing if they also fall within the orb of application such as used in Western astrology. Often, the result anyway, it is that they apply within relevant divisionals anyway. eg. a tight orb between planets in a grand trine falls into a conjunction in a navamsa chart.
http://vjgoel.blogspot.com/search?updated-min=2009-01-01T00%3A00%3A00-08%3A00&updated-max=2010-01-01T00%3A00%3A00-08%3A00&max-results=5 (scroll down)
vi. Conjunctions to fixed stars (noting which specific fixed star a planet conjoins and consider which nakshatra and navamsa pada this falls in)
See http://www.constellationsofwords.com/stars/Stars_in_longitude_order.htm Note: Need to subtract Ayanamsa to derive Sidereal Vedic positions of planets.
In weighing up the pros and cons and confluences in a chart, aspects are very important in swaying ones subtle decision. Generally, natural benefics by aspect can override other negative rules and positions in astrology despite being temporal malefics and visa versa. Order of weightage as follows
ORDER of Aspect effect
Best = natural and temporal benefic best (esp. Jupiter)
2nd = natural benefic and temporal malefic
3rd = natural malefic and temporal benefic
Worst = natural and temporal malefic (esp. Saturn)
Note: that aspects to own houses/signs are always very good and strengthen the house despite other negative influences
Note: that natural aspects reveal more inner nature whereas lordship will indicate outer manifestation ie. Jupiter as Benefic aspect but temporal lord will give good nature to the person but the negative lordship will mean some negative outer influence in that aspect of life.
Also note: it is important to remember the qualitative nature of an aspect before considering the effect of aspect. Eg. Jupiter Venus conjunctions creates a positive feel being 2 benefics together in the affairs they rule but as enemies are not necessary good in their effect.
Lastly note that aspects are a complex assessment of planets positions relative to each other and the Ascendant. Everything has to be analysed and integrated into a reading.
The order of aspects from general complexity to more specifics
Asthakvarga, Argala & Bhavat Bhavam & Configurations/Planetary spread => Rasi aspects => Planetary aspects => Orbs
Steps for reading aspects (in terms of effects)
Rasi aspects (general) => Planetary (specific) => Argala (outcome)
The Planetary FRIENDSHIP Rule
(trinal lords are usually friends when in a sign ruled by the trinal planet lord or aspected by it eg. Planets 5th or 9th to Ascendant lord)
Planets are usually considered positive when occupying a friendly sign based on friendship rules but temporary friendship also plays a part. Ie. If the lord of the sign is not suitably placed away from the house or planet.
More to consider about aspects =>
i. Permanent friendship or enemy = aspects to friendly or unfriendly planets & signs eg.Venus, Merc, Saturn friendly to each other can colour “the order of aspect effect” mentioned earlier
ii. Temporal friendship (is friendly when the lord of the sign the planet is in , is 2, 3,4, 5, 9, 10, 11, 12 away, o/w unfriendly
Together the permanent and temporal aspects can combine to create a great friend at one end of a great enemy at the other, and in such cases may well modify 2nd and 3rd (inter-changeable) order of the 4 above points involved in weighing the Aspectual Strength priority
eg. Saturn in friendly aspect as 9th an 10th (temporal benefic) lord aspecting friendly Venus 3 signs away might be better than Jupiter as 8th lord aspecting Venus by conjunction?
Another Point about Aspects in Divisional Charts
Generally, due to the spatial distance in the rasi chart as opposed to divisional charts, I consider aspects MORE relevant to rasi chart only. Some astrologers, including myself, apply rasi aspect to divisionals as well, and some (not myself) apply planetary aspect to Navamsa too.
I place sign, house, conjunctions and angular position as more important in divisionals and look for confluence (esp conjunctions) of aspects from divisionals in rasi.
- COMPONENT FIVE -
YOGAS
Yogas are the most complicated topic of Vedic Astrology and require an immense amount of experience, memory, discernment and intuition to discover and interpret. It is important to have one's fundamentals clear on basic principles of strength and rules before trying to memorise all the slokas to do with various obtuse yogas. Have a hierachy of approach and understand the exemptions to the rule at each level. Some easy yogas to start with includes: Raja Yogas, Sun Yogas, Moon Yogas, Angular Mahapurusha Yogas (ie. foundational strength of chart). More obtuse yogas include: Neechabhanga, Vipreet, Amsa yogas, Jaimini yogas etc….with more and more subtle yogas progressively identified and covered. This is often where computers are useful. One need not analyse all the more complicated yogas but let the astrological programs do that and then check them after considering the more basic ones to see if they apply, or are strong enough to manifest on the foundational strength of the chart (eg. Sun, Moon and Ascendant) and later more complex ones. Note the repetition from Moon (and in Amsa).
Yogas in summary:-
i) OBSERVED Yogas =
a)Initial observed => Raja Yogas, Mahapurusha Yogas, Sun & Lunar Yogas
(RAJA YOGA)Formed when a lord of angle and trine conjoin, mutally or exchange by lordship to aspect each other in angles
(MAHAPURUSHA) 5 main types for 5 planets (ideally located in angle without any other planet and esp. not associated with a luminary)
(SOLAR YOGAS) Benefics on either side prop up and strengthen luminaries and form yogas. No planets on either side weaken them. This never usually the case with the Sun, which usually has Mercury or Venus not far away.
(LUNAR YOGAS) Esp. consider Kemadruma yogas as destructive to chart potential ie. Moon without planets on either side/sign, not in angles, nor planets in angles to it, advanced waning, malefic aspects, no Jupiter aspect or influence/cancellation ie. gaja kesari yoga. Made worse by Sakata yoga (Jupiter in 6/8 relationship to Moon)
b)Deeper observed =>
1) Neechabhanga & Vipreet Raja Yoga
Note: unusual rules for the above two yogas manifest:-
(VIPREET RAJA YOGA RULES) 3 types of classic vipreet yogas (harsha, sarala, vimala)
http://www.planetarypositions.com/notes/2010/02/03/vipareeta-raja-yoga/
Plus unusual cases http://www.scribd.com/doc/259987/5-vipareeta-rajayoga
(NEECHABHANGA RULES) For the neechabhanga (cancellation of debility rules) to become a Rajayoga many authorities suggest that the debilitated planet has to be in a kendra/quadrant house
Cancellation rules = (i) a planet at birth in its depression has the lord of that sign, or that of its exaltation sign in a cardinal house either with respect to ascendant or Moon sign (ii) same for debilitated planet's exaltation sign's lord position (iii) the planet is aspected by the lord of the sign, or the planet that is exalted in the sign (iv) the debilitated planet is in its exaltation in Navamsa (v) the lord of the Navamsa occupied by the depressed planet at birth posited in a cardinal house, or in a trine house with respect to the Ascendant while the Ascendant lord itself is in a Navamsa owned by a movable sign (vi) the lord of the sign in which the debilitated planet is in is in exaltation and to a lesser extent in its own sign (vii) for a neechabhanga to become a a raja yoga, some argue at least 2 of the above should be functioning and the debilitated planet should be angular to the Ascendant or Moon
2) Jnana, Sanyasa yogas etc...
3) Amsa yogas
4) Jaimini yogas
5) Nabhasa Yogas - celestial combinations
6) Rare yogas such Adi Sakti yoga
ii) COMPUTER GENERATED yogas including:
a) above subtle yogas - 2) - 6)
b) + wealth (Dhana Yogas) vs poverty (Darida Yogas) giving combinations
http://www.scribd.com/doc/24412777/Wealth-and-Business-investments
http://www.scribd.com/doc/24412760/Hora-D-2-chart
iii) SLOKAS FROM THE CLASSIC TEXTS & SAGES => the above yogas + more rare complicated combinations
(see classic texts = BPHS, Jaimini Sutras, Sarvali, Brihat Jataka, Phal Deepika, Uttar Kalamrit, Sarvath Chintamani, Prasna Marg, Bhavatha Ratnaka, Jatak Parivat Chandra Kali Nadi, Maan Sagaari etc. which contain slokas from the opinions of various sages such as Parasara, Jaimini, Manteswara, Vaharamira etc.)
NOTE: BV Raman also has many of the yogas mentioned in his "300 most important combinations" book.

- COMPONENT SIX -
STRENGTH (power to manifest potential of combinations depends on inherent strength of planets in chart). Two approaches considered:-
i) Quantative = Shadbaba (planetary strength), Bhava Bala (House Strength), Vimshpaak (sign strength) & Ashtavarga (aspectual strength)
ii) Qualitative = intial analysis of i.Angular planets, ii. Tripod of Ascendant, Moon and Sun, iii. (final)depositorship iv. Aspect to Own
+ Later Analysis (after quantative) of aspects, retrogression,
combustion, avastha, pushkara, depositorship, mid-house position, vargotomma, number of times planet repeats in own/exaltaion sign (observing Vimshopak) etc.
Note: Discrepancies and nuances of rules for retrogression and combustion and avastha/vargotomma/pushkara
eg. does retrogression have a strenghtening influence?, does it reverse the effect of planets in exaltation and debilitation? how does its influence vary with a natural benefic or malefic planet? does it have an obstructed/delayed, twisted/crooked or more inward/subjective/symbolic effect? etc.
eg. does combustion weaken a planet? does it effect the outer manifestation of the planet and it's lordship but strengthen the inner qualities? does it depend on whether the planet is approaching or departing combustion? does it depend on time of the day? does it get modified by Moon's cooling aspect? does zero degree combustion have a different effect? does retrogression and the above factors influence the orb of combustion for each planet? is it true that a retrograde planet does not lose its rays at combustion? http://vjgoel.blogspot.com/search?updated-min=2009-01-01T00%3A00%3A00-08%3A00&updated-max=2010-01-01T00%3A00%3A00-08%3A00&max-results=5 ....etc.
eg. is a planet weak due to avasta when it is vargotomma such as when in the first degrees of cardinal signs? is a planet that is Atmakaraka but pushkara in the last degrees of fire signs weak? is a planet that is higher in longitude not older and therefore more experienced like atmakaraka? is avasta a less or more important a factor than other strength factors such as depositorship, vagotomma etc..?
STRENGTH in SUMMARY
4 Components => Initial Reading => Quantative => Qualitative
i) Sign => Tripod (Asc, Moon, Sun signs) => Vimshopaak (noting number of times planets repeats in own or exaltation signs), Sarva Ashtavarga => Avastha, pushkara etc.
ii) Planet => Angular => Shad Bala, Binna Ashtavarga => Retrogression, combustion, (leading to power of YOGAS to manifest)
iii) House => Lordship => Bhava Bala, Sarva Ashtavarga => Mid-house etc.
iv) Aspect => Own sign/lord => Ashtavarga Principles(points from natural Malefic vs Benefics) => 4 levels aspect (planetary, sign, argala, ashtavarga)
AFFLICTION (via aspect) versus STRENGTH
NOTE: It is important to recognise the difference between strength/weakness versus affliction ie. a planet can be strong yet afflicted eg. angular mahapurusha planet yet afflicted by combustion, malefic hemming or aspects etc...
ALSO NOTE that the strength of a planet can indicate the PLANETARY TYPE. Each planet should be individually assessed, combining all rules for strength, to determine their power. Using the quantitive measure of Ishta Phala and the qualitative analysis of all aspects (planetary, rasi, argala, ashtakvarga, orbs, configurations, bhavat bhavam) on the planetary type, its positive or negative expression can be assessed.
And that both Argala and ashtakvarga appear like complex aspects revealing the planets relative position to each other. Along with bhavat bhavam (sign lord position) from the planet can reveal a lot about a planet.

- COMPONENT SEVEN -
HOUSE BY HOUSE 1-12
After a thorough analysis of the Ascendant, continue to consider the other houses progressively, their lords, karaka planet, aspect from dig bala and other planet, Jaimini karaka and relevant divisional chart to the house being analyse
Repeat approach form the Moon and Ascendant, Sun & Ak to see confluence and repetition, noting the Moon strength against the Ascendant strength. (Part of initial reading 2 TRIPOD)
Note that Moon is strong during the night, during the waxing half of the fortnight, and southern movement of the Moon for 6 months, Monday, when Moon is on a angle, is hemmed in by at least one benefic or has angular relationships to it, or friendly benefics like Jupiter forming Gaja kesari yoga aspect it.
In such a case, and if the Ascendant is weak, more emphasis should be placed on planets positions form the Moon. But usually I only give it 50% at the most, but in a more evolved chart with Moon reflecting more of the cosmic light than the Sun, I would give more to the Moon.
- COMPONENT EIGHT -
Important FACTORS - should be esoterically explained
1. Rasi (12 signs of solar system/12 Vedic Adityas -physical)
2. Navamsa (9th Harmonic - 108 Padas of Nakshatras -cosmic)
3. Ak (Atmakaraka - Soul indicator) & Arudha (Lagna - perceived self)
4. Nodes (Rahu & Kethu/birth & death)
5. Jupiter (Guru's Grace of Space)
6. 9th House (Portal of Protection)
7. Divisionals (Harmonics - "music of the spheres")
12 signs of Solar System
1a Rasi (Ascendant) = Body => aspects between 9th lord and Ascendant/lord important for Grace. Also Sun as Ascendant karaka
Against
1b Chandra Lagna = Mind Chart => Sun Chart = Sudarashan Chart for confluence
9th Harmonic connects Solar system to Galaxy
2 Navamsa (pada of Nakshatra) Position of 9th lord there, Jupiter and Kethu, and angular positions in amsa important
Note a: connections between Ascendant and 9th lord and Navamsa are important in revealing the ability to dharmically expand into the Nakshatra level of cosmic consciousness and tap powers of nature
Note b: Thus connection between 27 Nakshatrashtra to 12 signs via the Navamsa
Note c: Steps for assessing AMSA (apart from the Navamsa strengthening factors such as planets in vargotamma there, friendly signs on the chart) SEE COMPONENT 9
27 stars (108 padas) of our Galaxy/God
2a. Nakshatra = Mind => connects to Universal via Nakshatras. 4th house karaka => 10th house karaka (esp with Jupiter involved for the expansion)
Note: planets operate on Rasi level through deeper Navamsa/pada from Nakshatra depositorship eg. Jupiter in 11 degrees libra (ruled by Venus) => Capricorn Navamsa (ruled by Saturn) => 2nd pada Swati Nakshtra (ruled by Nakshatra).
Note interaction between depositorship/lordship and confluence on these 3 levels (Deeper Cosmic Nakshatra level => Navamsa => Physical Solar Rasi level).
Also note how some astrologers translate an effect from Nakshatra level back into the rasi. eg. Mercury in Purvaphalungini (Venus star) will have an effect on the Ascendant for a Venus ruled Taurus or Libra Ascendant. Thus, Rasi, Navamsa and Nakshatra levels can influence the Ascendant.
2b Panchanga (Panchanga – day, tithi, nakshatra, yogi, karana etc.... 60 year cycle)
Atmakarakas
3a AK (Jaimini karakas) = jivatma or soul planet – important in Rasi and Amsa and Nakshatra. Position in Amsa called Karakamsa. Sign and house position, trinal positions from it, association with luminaries and nodes and jaimini karakas have to be carefully scrutinized for souls ultimate purpose of incarnation.
3b Sun (Parasara karaka) = Paratma . Used in assessing tripod strength of planet. Source of power and consciousness. Ecliptic path with Moon creates Nodes and power of veiling, maya, duality and ego but by itself it represents pure being. AK comes about as sense of separation created by nodes veiling the sun. Ak wants release via kethu to merge in Sun.
Nodes to Nakshatras to Navamsa
4. Nodes = reveal karmic memories (kethu) and desire (rahu). They are important in assessing talents (kethu) as well as where the soul want to evolve via desires and experience (rahu). They show much about the level of evolution of a chart and the duality of being held in consciousness. They are not planets but psychological points whose lords in whose signs they are placed are the planetary armies of the chart that control (kethu) and distribute (Rahu) karma. Kethu is philosophically symbolic of the veiling powers of the mind and space, whereas Rahu is the mayic projecting powers of mind and time. Kalasarpa yogas involving these nodes give much insight into the karmic conditions that are demanded of one in their life.
In examining a chart, it is important to look at the integration of the lords of the signs in which Rahu (Kamic Distribution) and Kethu (Karmic Control) are placed. The better the harmony, friendship and aspect, the easier the integration of the karmic lessons at work and the integration of experiences/desires (Rahu) into wisdom (kethu).
Also note the rules for Nodes and lordship. ie. sign lord vs conjunctions vs star lord. Thus, the node will be dominated by planet which it is also aspected by.
The star lord will have greater influence (than the sign lord) if it also aspects the node.
Also note that planets in the nodes Nakshatras will come under its influence.
With conjoining planets, Rahu tends to over project the planet whereas Kethu tends to block and make the planet operate compulsively. Eclipses of luminaries are very serious aspects which can lead to a disconnection with soul (sun) and mind (moon) but in highly evolved charts can indicate transcendence of ego and thought eg. Ramana Maharishi or Chaitanya Prabupad.
Note: Nodes can form Raja Yogas, esp. if in a trine, angle or 11th house and lord is in a trine or aspected by a trinal lord. Rahi does well in 3rd, 6th and 11th houses.

5. Jupiter is important in revealing the power of the mind to expand and ripen into cosmic consciousness.
Note: Kethu does best in Jupiter signs (Sag) where expansion/ripening of mind leads to release (moksha). These planets are very important in the Navamsa along with analyzing 9th lord and AK
Also note that Jupiter is the satellite to our central Sun via Moola Nakshatra ruled by Kethu and Jupiter
A powerful and well placed Jupiter can mitigate many if not all of the defects in a chart. Forexample, Jupiter in the Ascendant where it gets dig bala and aspect the dharmic trine houses. Also, a Hamsa Yoga, or Gajakesari Yoga, or a full Moon aspected by Jupiter can all greatly improve and alleviate a chart.
Jupiter represents our higher ethical and dharmic nature. Chinese astrology follows a 60 year cycle based on Jupiter in the 12 signs in a cycle of 5 elements. Jupiter in Aries = Dragon, in Taurus = Sake etc... ie. representing higher qualities of sign. Rat or Jupiter in Sagittarius represents the 1st sign of the Chinese zodiac and corresponds to the Galactic Centre of Moola Nakshatra (the "root" or first Nakshtra).
Portal of Protection
6. 9th house and it's lord reveals the amount of protection in a chart. The strength of the 9th house should be read from the Ascendant and Moon. Whichever is stronger will have a predominant influence.
Benefics in, and benefic aspects to planets in the 9th house, are generally very auspicious and can also greatly mitigate weaknesses in the chart.
As mentioned earlier under "Navamsa", relationships between Jupiter, Ascendant & its lord and the 9th house and its lord can over ride many weaknesses in a chart as well as reveal spirituality, grace and dharma in the individual. Aspects between them, Ak (Atmakaraka), Saturn and/or Sun can also contribute.
Navamsa, as the 9th divisional, and relationships with the 9th lord and the above indicators (ie. Jupiter) also further delineate and fine-tune the quality of "grace" in the chart. Also must consider 9th house in Navamsa and 9th from Ak (Atmakaraka) and 9th from AL. Note: 1st and 5th from Ak in Navamsa related to worship of forms of Siva (sins of past life)and 9th & 12th to worship of forms of Vishnu (sins of vs sustainance for this life). Also consider Bk (Bhatrikaraka) along with Jupiter in Navamsa. Kethu important for revealing "moksha".
Harmonics
7) Divisional Chart in question
= Used taking look at all confluences in various charts as well as taking house by house approach, considering all relevant karakas and lords in relevant divisional charts (D1-12 physical, D12-24 mental, D24-36 subconscious, D36-48 karmic lineage, D60 past lives – confirm details of Rasi chart).
Note: 5 levels of consciousness with subtraction by 12 to D chart revealing harmonic of rasi chart eg. D30 – 24 (12x2) = 6th harmonic of 6th house for health and disease. Look for 6th lord and karaka Saturn in D30 as well as 6th house as well as D30 Ascendant/lord and relevant houses in D30

http://www.lightonvedicastrology.com/phpBB3_0/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=8965
Also note that chart reading is on the foundation of fixed stars within nakshatra 13 1/3 degree bands and that Navamsa is the final harmonic that filters energies through into the 12 signs of the rasi.
Summary of Chart Order for Physical/Astral & Causal Levels
1.Ascendant axis & Sun => Body/Physical
2. 4th axis & Moon & Amk => Mind/Astral
(1st – 9th lord aspects from Ascendant, Moon, AK involving Jupiter => in Navamsa)
3. Navamsa-Pada-Nakshatra & AK/Jupiter/ Kethu/9th lord => Soul = Ak (atma or causal body)

18 EXAMPLE STEPS FOR READING NAVAMSA TOGETHER WITH RASI
Planets operate from cosmic Nakshatra level (27) through the Navamsa (9 padas) into the 12 Rasis (physical solar) via Karakamsa and Tulya Rasi
Note again:-
Ak = Causal (Jupiter and kethu relationship to Ak = expansion and release from consciousness)
Moon = Astral
Ascendant & karaka Sun = Physical
STEPS 1 - 4 (Navamsa)
1. AK planet (in Nakshatra) eg. natural malefic vs benefic status of Ak planet.
(Good to note Nakshatra lord ie. its dipositorship, friendship to sign & pada lord, KP star system, and influence of planets in Nakshatras and thereby the Nakshatra lords indirect influence of houses in rasi eg. for Taurus Ascendant, planet in Venus Nakshatra will influence 1st house) BUT this technique is too advanced to apply here.
2. AK in Navamsa sign = Karakamsa
(trine or angular planets to it; trinal denotes soul's skill and angular its desires)
eg. three natural malefics in association in trines to Ak, but aspected by benefics (I only apply rasi aspects) results that the good influence overrides the malefics. Thus, in this specific combination, the soul has the powers of yantra, mantra and tantra but only uses the spiritual power for good. Malefic aspects would create a "black magician".
Note: Other Spiritual Indicators from Ak in Navamsa
Ishta devata (12th from Ak - moksha) Dharma devata (9th from Ak - spiritual path), Paalana devata (6th from Amk - protection from material obstacles) and Guru devata (Bk). Rule is first look at strongest planet in these houses, otherwise strongest rasi aspects to house, otherwisw the lord of house. These planets are important in overcoming the problems of life eg. such as the bhadaka or bhadakesh planet's negative effect in the chart. Note: Ishta & Dharma devatas relates to forms of Vishnu whilst 1st & 5th from KK to worship of forms/jyothi lingams of Siva.
3.Navamsa lagna (& lord) with trines to it (for opportunity to manifest natural skills) and angles (efforts required to develop skills and field of dharma):-
Eg. Jupiter and Moon in 1st and/or 5th (and even 2nd) to Navamsa lagna can indicate abilities and opportunities as an author. OR Jupiter and Kethu, an astrologer.
https://lightonvedicastrology.com/phpBB3_0/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=4978
9th Harmonic 4 Fields of Dharma
i) 1st - personal dharma
ii) 4th - mother land
iii) 7th - spouse
iv) Universal dharma
Note: look at relationship between AK and Navamsa lagna and their lords for ease of self-actualisation eg. 6/8 difficulties vs trinal harmonies & blessings (esp. if planets in trinal positions)
Angular placement of planets in Navamsa as well as trine relations to AK.
Placement of Ak in a sign becomes the Karakamsa of the chart and can be read frmm Rasi and Navamsa. Trines to Ak reveal more about the souls abilities to achieve the potential reflected in the angles of the Navamsa and angles of the Rasi. Tines to Navamsa can reveal gifts and ease/opportunity for expressing these confirmed in the Rasi. ie. the Parakrama (effort) revealed by 3rd and 6th from AL in Rasi.
4. Karakamsa (KK) in Rasi chart sign/house domain, and angles and trines to it (note: Kk and Tulya Rasi connects Navamsa to Rasi)
http://www.barbarapijan.com/bpa/Topics/karakamsha.htm
STEPS 5 - 12 (Rasi)
5. Ak in Rasi (its house lord) and planets in angles and trines to it
(note relationship of Ak to kethu and Jupiter in rasi and navamsa)
6. Moon in Rasi & Nakshatra
7. Ascendant in Rasi &
8. it's Karaka - Sun
(Sudarshan chakra & Panchanga information)
9. Ascendant lord position (Paaka lagna)
10 Arudha lagna
11. 9th lord in rasi
STEPS 12-19 (Navamsa again)
12. Ascendant lord and 9th lord in Navamsa (note sambandha between 1st and 9th lords in rasi and amsa)
13. karakas Jupiter and kethu in navamsa & rasi
14. NAVAMSA independent analysis (esp, note Ak & its lord relationship to Amsa and its lord ie. potential for self-actualisation)
15. Navamsa (ascendant) lord strength and position in Rasi chart
STEPS BACK INTO RASI
16. TULYA RASI ie. Navamsa into Rasi (eg. Navamsa lagna in Rasi, and the positions of Navamsa planets super-imposed into Rasi). Also note house distance of Navamsa lagna sign from Rasi lagna sign.
17. Nadi Seed influences (no. of house placements a planet moves from from rasi sign to navamsa sign), For example Vargotomma planet in the same sign seed influences the 1st house. http://www.wandahl.com/Pages/Articles/Pred3.htm.
Also note Pushkara and strength on same principles.
http://www.lightonvedicastrology.com/phpBB3_0/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=8797
18. Integration of confluences between Rasi and Navamsa and re-examine strength of Rasi again. (Note: strength of Chart still rests mainly in the Rasi). Also note inter-relationship of Vishnu karakas Ak & Amk from Navamsa with Brahma karakas in Rasi
ie. strength of luminaries, Ascendant, Ak & nodes in Navamsa & Rasi (evolution of chart) => angular planets in rasi, raja yogas etc..
Extra Points
i) 9th lord of rasi amsa along with Jupiter, Kethu, AK (and luminaries)
ii) Look for confluence between amsa and rasi .. esp with 9th lord, Ascendant, Jupiter, Nodes , luminaries, etc…
iii) Helps specify (house) matters from rasi eg. Ak Saturn lord of 9 & 10 in 12th but 7the in Navamsa ie. 7th house mater of 12th house
Note: That same principles of Navamsa can be applied to other divisionals based on their related house karakas eg. 4th hsoue karakas in D4, D16, D40
Special note for Ak: If Surya is found in any of the bhavas 2, 5, 8 or 11, and Lagna Lord is found in kendra, one of the below Gayatris flourish.
1. Atmakaraka in 2nd house gives joy resulting out of Shiva gyana (knowledge).
2. Atmkaraka in 5th house gives joy resulting out of Vishnu gyana
3. Atmakaraka in 8th house gives joy resulting out of Surya or Brahma Gyan
4. Atmakaraka in 11th house gives joy resulting out of Devi gyan

- COMPONENT TEN -
READING THE CHART
As mentioned earlier greatest problem of astrology is the subtle art of weighing up pros and cons of a confluence of combinations in varying patterns and knowing how to prioritise and give the appropriate hierachial structure to clarify to clarify ones judgement in reading an astrological symbolic story in literal and relevant language . In terms of confluence, in reading houses … how house, lord, house karakas, Jiamini karakas and appropriate divisional all confluence and how a lot of experimentation, observation, feed-back and experience has to develop before feeling, analyzing and seeing all come together. Best to keep it simple with
i. Parasara Rasi/Chandra
(Including Initial Readings Angular, Tripod, Lordship, Aspect)
ii. Navamsa
iii. Nakshatras
iv. Other divisionals (read from Rasi => Navamsa => appropriate Divisional eg. 10th lord in rasi, Navamsa and then Dasamsa for career)
v. Jaimini karakas (esp AK in Rasi & Navamsa)
vi. Advanced / Extra Material (eg. Ghatika lagna, hora lagna, etc..western outer planets, Uranus, Neptune, Pluto, asteroids etc.) Synnastry, business astrology, economics & political, weather astrology etc…
vii. Also remember that FEMALE HOROSCOPY has its own set of rules ie. paying more relevance to the 7th & 8th house in a females chart. Children are often seen from the 9th house and 5th from the Moon (and Ascendant) in a females chart. Note that Triamsa D30 chart is very important in female horoscopy (ie. her blessings or evils transfer to the husband).
Ascendant = Physique
2nd House = Facial features
3rd house = Breasts & Buttocks
4th house = Ornaments
5th house = Character & Conduct
6th house = Other women her husband marries
7th house = Hair, nautre of the husband, kind or cruel
8th house = Female organ
9th house = Duties, prosperity of husband
10th house = Piety, character, faithfulness to husband
11th house = Gains & luxuries
12th house = Ears & feet
ORDER of Reading the Chart
i) Observe the Character (destiny reflected through character)
a) (Ascendants- Lagna, PK, AL, Sun, Moon, Lagnamsa, KK, AK)
b) "Samudrika" such as palmistry to hep confirmation chart
Use other complimentary divination tools such as palmistry (yogas manifesting on hand as special markings eg. Girdle of Venus etc..), omens (tajikja) ie. eye and body language + environmental cues, pysiognmy and face reading, graphology, numerology (pythagorus), tarot, I-ch’ng etc…
c) Note "Planetary Type(s)" from quick perception of person and chart eg. Venusian tend to have oval faces, "kapha" appearance, dove like eyes, look sideways, dimples, beauty etc...
ii) Case history (note taking)
Counsel with clients present or at least photo, profession, race, religion, age, gender etc… make it inter-active at the beginning until grow in confidence with intuition. Astrology is an art as well as science and one should feel the chart and keep it simple before too much analysis.
iii) Rectification & Longevity (next component - 11)
Correct chart (birth) and death worked our before analysing life!
iv) Rules Applied
a) The 4 Initial Reading I, II, III & IV (mentioned earlier)
Intial Reading 1 = TRIPOD signs of Ascendant (personna), Moon (inner life) & Sun (outer life)
=> Along with Atmakaraka Ak and Nodes revels foundational strength of chart (as well as evolution). Measure if Moon is as strong as strong as the Ascendant.
Initial Reading 2 = ANGULAR natural benefics vs malefics to Rasi Ascendent (Note that North Indian chart is useful against the South Indian to quickly see the angular position of planets)
Intial Reading 3 = LORDSHIP – Chart Pattern/Depositorship (quick way to remember chart) .. also useful to discern western astrological approach to identify configurations and planetary spread. Also important exercise in spotting general patterns and yogas quickly.
Initial Reading 4: = ASPECTS to own signs or planets in own sign /exaltation also used to reveal general strength of chart. Note that natural nature (malefic ie. Saturn vs benefic ie. Jupiter) on a final depositorship planet can reveal an overall influence on the chart)
b) Consider rules for strength and evolution of chart (against current observations and intuition of case history/bio-data)
PROGRESSIVE (9) FACTORS TO DETERMINE EVOLUTION OF THE CHART
Strength
1. Strength of Ascendant
2. Strength of planets (ie. angular benefics)
3. Presence of Yogas (Mahapuusha, Raja etc...)
4. Strength of Luminaries
(Ascendant => Moon => Sun = suggesting the Sun lagna becomes more significant as the Moon and Ascendant are already strong)
5. Strength of Ak in Rasi & Navamsa
(Connection between Ak & Sun?)
Spirituality
6. Planets in dharma, moksha, angular houses & trines to Ak
7. Strength of Navamsa, D20, D24 & D60 & Auspicious Yogas
(Gaja Kesari Moon-Jupiter angular or 5th/9th aspect, Mahapurusha Hamsa yoga, Amsa-avatar, Brahma, Vishnu, Siva, Jnana yogas, etc...)
8. Strength of 9th lord & Jupiter & Confluence with Ascendant & Ak
(these aspects involving Saturn & Sun also add to spirituality)
9. Involvement of Ak & Nodes (esp. Kethu) with luminaries in Navamsa & Rasi
10. General overall integration of chart (lordships of nodes, houses, planets, aspects with the above)
Note: 12th from Ak in Navamsa is the ishta devata and indicates after life. If kethu is there and Jupiter signs involved there is a strong likelihood of moksha if the rasi reinforces this. Ie. With planets in 4th, 8th and 12th psychic moksha houses and 9th lord, nodes, Jupiter
c) Rules for reading Rasi, Navamsa, Divisionals etc..
ie. 18 steps mentioned earlier in component 9
d) Dasa systems (later - see Component 13)
v) Order of Reading the chart (Destiny)
After taking the case history, rectifying the chart and determining the longevity, combine the above analysis (rules applied) of sign, house, planet, aspect, strength (quantative vs qualitative) & Yoga (note that power of aspects can and usually does over-ride planetary associations and yogas) to begin reading of the chart using Navamsa before proceeding to other divisionals and dasa systems.
Here is the suggested approach to reading a chart by a recognised jyotish teacher
http://www.shrifreedom.org/nakshatras.htm
- COMPONENT ELEVEN -
A) RECTIFICATION & B) LONGEVITY
http://www.blogger.com/post-edit.g?blogID=155013295431567346&postID=1515824783494981798
You can refer to the above post link for more information on rectification and longevity (with sample chart)
A) RECTIFICATION – using
a) Sign to Sign vs Chart Spread (for greater than 1-2 hours)
i)Ascendant
ii. Planet/house spread for determining Rasi Ascendant
b) Navamsa comparison within sign (for within 1-2 hours)
http://jyotish.tribe.net/thread/d7478a05-f243-4a88-81a8-9b6ba84607f1
i) Can use Sanjay Rath method as in thread ie. rectification based on distribution of planets relative to Navamsa lagna eg. planets in trine to reveal skills or planets in 2nd house/Moon trines and 7th to reveal sexuality etc...
ii) Can use a comparison of confluence of influences between Navamsa lagnas (ie. planetary strength and impact on the Rasi chart) against a case history and dasa analysis of relevant planets identified (from optional Lagamsas)
c) Divisionals (fine-tuning to minute)
D9 and D10 for more subtler narrower time determiniation and deeper divisionals with D charts eg. D16 and appropriate dasa system for accidents
d) Dasa and/of planet against choosing an event from the case history
B) LONGEVITY – using
i. BALARISTA & AYUDAYA (rules for birth & 3 progressive stages of life).Noting a)Ascendant lord & 8th house lord b)Ascendant & Moon c)Ascendant & Hora Lagna as well as Kakshya Vriddhi (increase in term of life) Kakshya Hrasa (decrease in term of life)
Note: for Balarista weakness of the Moon plays a significant role.

iii. USE OF 8th and 3rd FROM ARUDHA LAGNA
Jaimini says that “The 8th house and 8th from it (3rd ) from AL determine the period and nature of death” (3.3.5). The AL3 is very valuable to share the place and nature of death [4]. Jaimini says that if “the 3rd house (from Arudha Lagna) is a malefic sign, a bad/unnatural death occurs (3.3.3)”. Malefics or a malefic sign in the third house shows a nice place of death” (2.2.27) “Benefics or beneficial sign in the third house shows a nice place of death” (2.2.26) The sign shows the place of death while the planets conjoining or aspecting the AL3 will indicate the cause of death. The AL3 reveals the nature of that death, where you are and what it is that takes you out of this world.
iv. ALSO NOTE 8TH (& 12TH HOUSE LORD) FROM KARAKAMSA - Maheswara Planet
v. SHIVA STHIRA KARKAKAS used for death.
vi. MARAKAS (2nd & 7th) lords for death (ie. 12th from house of life - 8th & 3rd)
vii. NATURAL PLANETARY KARAKAS (Saturn - aging & Kethu - death)
viii. DASAS TO CONSIDER - Vimshottari (Parasara) & Shoola (Jaimini) dasa (specific dasa for death). Timing death is to be done with the method of three pairs, (Niryana & Pitru)shoola dasa, shoola chakra, navatara. Also note Sthira dasa and Phalita Dasas (Chara Dasa, Dasa Varsha, Chara Paryaya Dasa, Sthira Parya Dasa, Trikona Dasa)
The rasis containing the 2nd and 7th houses are called maraka sthanas (killer stations). When we use rasi-ruled dasas that can show death, dasas of these rasis can bring death. Lords of the 2nd and 7th houses are called maraka grahas (killer planets). When we use planet-ruled dasas that can show death, dasas of these planets can bring death.
Note Rudra planets:- 8th lord of the Ascendant & 8th lord of 7th from Ascendant. Stronger of the two is called the Prani Rudra (life killer). The weaker if associated with or aspected by any malefic becomes the Aprani Rudra.
ix. DEATH INFLICTING DASA SIGNS - a) 5th & 9th signs of Ascendant or its 7th house b) 5th & 9th of Rudra planets c) Dasa signs occupied by Prani Rudra if he is a malefic d) Dasa sign occupied by Aprani Rudra e) Dasa sign occupied or aspected y Mars and the Moon f) Dasas sign aspected by Saturn and Rahu g) Dasas sign aspected or occupied by the Moon placed in Aries or Scorpio h) Dasa sign occupied by Moon associated with Malefics
x. TRANSITS used considering 64th NAVAMSA (& it lord) & 22nd DREKANNA (& its lord) for exact timing of death along with relevant (Mahadasa-bhukti)lord.
xi. ARUDHA PADA of the 8th House - Saturns transit of the Arudha of the 8th house
xii. DIVISIONALS - RUDRAMASA (D11 - death) and TRIAMSA (D30 - evils/sickness)
Other considerations:- Amshayu, Pindayu and Nisargayu (Vimshoitarri configurations)

LEARNING & PRACTICING ASTROLOGY
http://horoscopicastrologyblog.com/2007/10/19/10-tips-for-learning-astrology/
Ability to study Jyotish;
http://ahimsazr1.wordpress.com/2007/10/19/ability-to-study-and-practise-jyotisha/
http://www.indiadivine.org/audarya/vedic-astrology-jyotisha/293280-combinations-astrologers.html
http://www.jyotish.ws/wisdom/combinations_astrologer.html
Planets for Jyotisha are Surya, Guru, Ketu and Rahu - they should be well placed in Navamsa from Ak and Navamsa Lagna ie. 1st, (2nd), 5th, 7th & 9th houses
When these planets are in Navamsa Lagna, its trines or 7th house a person can be blessed by learning jyotish. Lagna is the blessing of Vishnu, while 5th house is the blessing of Shiva. 9th house depends on the blessing of Guru. 7th house gives desires, however, if the graha is in dual sign, the circumstances will lead a person towards the knowledge. Therefore, these four grahas should be in such places, and depend on such blessings.
In addition, Mercury (discrimination) and Jupiter (intuition) should be strong in the chart for mental capacity to learn astrology, ideally with Kethu in fire signs.
Kethu grants psychic abilities and planets in fire signs are good for the perception (light) that jyotish requires. Kethu in the Navamsa lagna or Navamsa 5th house is often found in astrologers. esp if in conjuction with Jupiter (ie. born into lineage of astrlogers).
Jupiter and/or Mercury associated with houses 2, 5, 8 & 11 (placement or lordship) are important houses for astrologers. An association between the Ascendant and 8th house is esp. good.
Moon in certain Nakshatras give a propensity for astrology eg. Satabishaj/Aquarius. Planets in certain signs can also give a propensity (eg. Mars in Leo, etc...) as well as certain combinations (eg. Mercury/Jupiter/Kethu conjunction, etc...)
Certain special combinations or Yogas; such as Matsya Yoga, Brahma Yoga or a specific Jnana Yoga (explained in Raman's book on 300 important combinations) can make an astrologer as well a specific combinations according to the classical texts.
Some Daivajna Yogas (for astrologers)
1. The lord of the 2nd house of the Ascendant is in exaltation, own house or, friend's house with Mercury in kendra or trine or 11th house
2. Mercury is in the Ascendant or in the 7th house with Saturn in a kendra
3. Mercury with Saturn in a kendra; one of the two in exaltation
4. Mercury and Saturn in Kendras to each other
5. The SUn and Mercury in teh second of the Ascendant
6. Mercury in the 2nd and Venus in the 3rd
7. Both Mercury and Venus in the 2nd or 3rd
8. Venus exalted in the 2nd, and the 2nd house lord in exaltation
9. Benefics in the 2nd, 3rd and 5th from the Ascendant (Benefics include Jupiter, Kethu, Venus, Mercury, Waxing Moon)
Intelligence to study Jyotish http://www.futurepointindia.com/articles/research-articles/planets-can-reveal-the-intelligence-of-people.aspx
Perhaps it is good to remember that Jyotish requires the synthesis of:
25% Guru's Grace, 25% experience, 25% association with better/good astrologers, 25% Grace of God
Start reading charts which;-
1. Are extreme examples of good and evil charts for each Ascendant. For example, Ghandhi (good) vs Hitler (evil) for Libra Ascendant, Guru Nanak (good) vs Ted Bundy (evil) for Leo Ascendant etc….
2. Spiritual / evolved charts eg. Ramana Maharishi, Yoganandna, Aurobindo, Chaitainya, Viviekananda, Guru Nanak, JD Krishnamurthi, Sathy Sai Baba, Rama, Krishna etc…
http://www.scribd.com/doc/31045437/BV-Raman-Notable-Horoscopes
3. Categories of strong charts for Politics, Sports, Music, Comedy etc… looking for combinations that made them great in their respective fields
For example" "Humour" & comedy in a chart:-
http://thecatandastrologer.wordpress.com/2009/11/07/astrological-humour-significators-monty-pythons/
4. Family members and close friends whose history and nature you can analyse well against the astrological rules and combinations
5. Your own chart trying to be as objective as possible
LEARNING TO COUNSEL
http://www.vastrologer.com/five-foundations.html
Suggested Spiritual Path for oneself
From the teachings the major religions (or Sathya Sai Baba's "unity of faiths"), and of purity/unity of thought, word & deed to build the character and self-concept with Love
=> work of Jungian psychologists, of Phyllis Krystal(and Sai Baba), of Biren Katie ("the work") and Jack Hawley (the Bhagvad Gita) to understand the patterns, nature and methods to manage the mind
=> JYOTISH to deepen this connection between psychology and Self-inquiry (Investigating into the nature of oneself/Self) & the Solar Yoga (see the other short blog ... the solar yoga - yoking the energy of the Sun)
=> Advaita (Self-inquiry) Spirituality of Ramesh Balsekar > Eckhart Tolle > Nisargadatta Maharaj/Ramana Maharishi/Adi Shankacharya/Zen Taoism
Steps to learning Jyotish
i. Self-Character Analysis from Rasi Chart =>
ii. Impersonalise astrological understanding to philosophy of prakriti (nature), mind and humanity (others charts)
iii. Understand Nakshatra in relationship toVedas =>
iv. Gayatri Mantra & Meditational Practice =>
v. Self-knowledge & Wisdom =>
vi. Psychological & Life Counselling =>
vii. Clairvoyance & Prediction
- COMPONENT THIRTEEN -
PREDICTIONS
Prediction - start with
i. Planet Age Period (eg. Moon, Mercury, Venus etc…) & Planet spread in Chart (1st vs 2nd half of chart, Rahu in which half, upachaya houses etc..)
naisargika [natural] dasa division
1______ Moon - ones birth to 1 year old
2 ______Mars -1 to 3 years old
3 ______Mercury - 3 to 12 years old
4 ______Venus - 12 to 32 years old
5 ______Jupiter - 32 to 50 years old
6 ______Sun - 50 years to 70 years old
7 ______Saturn- 70 to 120 years old

ii. Dasas
http://www.indiadivine.org/audarya/vedic-astrology-jyotisha/629794-ashtottari-dasa-v-other-dasa-systems.html
"Star" based Dasa Systems
1) VIMSOTTARI "star" dasa variations eg. From Moon vs Ascendant Nakshatra vs Kendra Dasa ie. when more than 4 planets in kendras (Most useful general "Mahadasa" system for kali yuga) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dasha_(astrology)
=> MOOLA DASA (Lagna Kendradi Graha Dasa) http://www.scribd.com/doc/259993/10-Moola-Dasa
http://www.scribd.com/doc/31047047/Sanjay-Rath-Vimsottari-and-Udu-Dasas
2) ASHTOTTARI DASA (108 years) - useful to compare against Vimsotarri dasa for negative against positive predictions.
3) YOGINI Dasa http://www.scribd.com/doc/20167631/An-Introduction-to-the-Yogini-Dash1,
"Sign" Based Dasa Systems
4) NARAYANA Dasa http://www.scribd.com/doc/288611/Analysing-Narayana-Dasa,
http://www.scribd.com/doc/240232/Narayanadasa
5) KALACHAKRA Dasa (King of Dasa Systems) http://www.scribd.com/doc/46121011/How-to-Use-Kalachakra-Dasa
There are many Dasa systems and it is important to know what and why each one is used for (eg. Shoola Dasa for predicting death, ayur dasas for longevity, drigdasa for spiritual progress, sudasa for wealth and money). There are also modern adapted system such as the KP (Krishnamurthi) system.
REMEMBER TO NOTE the difference of dasa application between Parasara dasa system VS Jaimini dasa systems
Common Parasara systems = Vimsotari (in Kali Yuga), etc...
VS
Common Jaimini systems = Chara, Sthira, Niryana Shoola, Navamsa dasa etc..
6) CHARA Dasa http://www.scribd.com/doc/5999102/Timing-of-Events-By-Using-Various-Jaimini-Rashi-Dashas
7) STHIRA Dasa http://www.vedicastrologer.org/articles/sthiradasa.pdf
8) NIRYANA SHOOLA Dasa http://www.scribd.com/doc/6001426/Niryana-Shoola-Dasa
These 2 different main systems have different karakas, rules, yogas and dasa systems which should not be mixed up for interpretation and prediction.
iii. Transits with orbs, slower planets first, Vedha (cancellation) Puro-latta and Prishtha-latta, Nakshtra Anga Phal, Special Nakshtra Transits, 88th Pada etc. consideration to dasa/bhukti lord. Note 3 cycles of 7 1/2 years of Sade Sani (Saturn transiting around natal Moon). Also remember transits from and through Nakshatras plays an important role too. (S.K. Duggal's "Interpretation of Planetary Transit is recommended for Nakshatra & Transits). Use Divisionals to fine tune from Moon, Ascendant, Ak.
http://ianala.blogspot.com/2007/08/sade-sati-kantaka-sani-712-years-of.html
iv. Ashtaavarga system & values (used with transits).
v. Prasna charts (often used with transits)
vi. Varsphal (solar annual) and planetary returns (eg. Saturn 29th year)
http://www.aryabhatt.com/astrology_software/varshphal.htm
vii. Maturation of planets
viii. Progressional techniques
ix. Timing for events: Muhurta using Panchanga
x. Nakshatra KP system (Krishnamurthi Pati)
GENERAL NOTE: IT IS IMPORTANT TO USE THE MICRO-ANALYSIS OF TRANSITS, ASHTAVAARGA & VARSPHAL IN TANDEM WITH THE MACRO-ANALYSIS OF THE VARIOUS DASA SYSTEMS & PLANETARY CYCLES
- COMPONENT FOURTEEN -
REMEDIALS
i. Mantra, Yantra and Tantra
ii. Gems, herbs, puja, homa, yagna, yoga, mudras, pranayama, life syle
iii) Mainstream and alternative treatments from:
Bio-mechanical => bio-chemical => bio-pranic vibrational => bio-environmental => bio-spiritual (devotion) therapies …ie. Knowing which remedials and health modalities to use for what stage and type of (karmic) affliction or disease

APPENDIX 5 TEMPLATE
COMPATABILITY WEB SITE for DATING & MARRIAGE
With the number of dating sites and people looking for their perfect mate, jyotish along with other available factors could provide the best means of finding true love through the internet with a world wide data base.
How?
The Site could have the motto “Have your Cake and eat it” and be made up of 5 C’s that are the 5 factors that could used computer packages to correlate a 5 star rating in this 5 categories:-
1. Character = using various profiling categories such as intovert, extrovert, spirituality, etc… as well as interests and hobbies
2. Credentials = using various factors such as age, gender, race, religion, professional status, income bracket etc… if made an essential requirement by subscriber
3. Chromosonal = could send an item of clothing such as a shirt to see if the person likes the smell. This has been proven to indicate “chemistry” between prospective partners due to smell being able to detect phrenenomes and the level of genetic disparity ideal for off-spring
4. Comapatability = would use JYOTISH by using the birth data of respective suitors and establishing the level of compatability based on 5 astrological 5 factors each given a 5 star level of statistical correlation based on parameters set by the astrological jyotish programmer. These are:-
i) The 18 factors based on Moon used traditionally in vedic astrology that would have to given equated values from 1 to 5.
These include the Yoni Kuta or sexual compatibility based on the "animal" types and sex.
Note that number of planets in male/female signs (notably the Moon & Ascendant) help determine compatability
ii) The number of contacts by aspect between romantic planets such as Mars and Venus as well as between Sun & Moon. Also the Chinese system based on Jupiter in signs can be used as well as karmic contacts involving Saturn and the nodes. This rating would require a subtle integrated measurement that can then be given the same 5 star rating system
iii) The 7th house, karaka Venus and its lord contacts between charts
Note that female horoscopy requires special rules ie. 7th house become more significant in her chart
iv) The Navamsa Divisional Chart; esp its 7th house & the Dara karka of Jaimini astrology
v) Upa pada lagna as indicator of partners
5. Contact Chemistry = photos or arranging speed dating services that allows you to meet this person (and similar prospects) in a random group of others to mutually detect intuitively what has been indicated by the above tests (ie. a 5 star rating)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
APPENDIX 6
JYOTISH (Light) IN STAGES OF VEDIC SPIRITUAL PHILOSOPHY
Philosophy of Dualism & Causality & Karma (I am in the Light) - Body level identification (Predictive Jyotish)
Stage 1. The World exists and operates under the law of cause and effect = starting level from which assumptions of Jyotish operates to move the understanding of the practitioner to the perception and experience of Non-dual Consciousness
Philosophy of Qualified Non-dualism & Spontaneous Creation ((The Light is in me) - Mind level identification (Psychological Jyotish). The world is unreal and arises spontaneously with the Seer or Witness
Stage 2. The World is in the Mind
Stage 3. The Mind is in the Brain (body-mind complex)
Philosophy of Non-dualism & Oneness (I am the Light) - Consciousness level identification (Remedial Jyotish). The Self (Brahma) is real => Brahma (the Self as Consciousness) is the World (the seer, seeing and seen or knower, knowing and known are One)
Stage 4. The Brain is in the Spiritual Heart
Stage 5. The Heart is Consciousness synonymous with knowledge of the changing and illusiory "world"= Beingness or sense of existence or "I am"
Philosophy of Non-causality = beyond light (& consciousness)and dark (shadow world) and jyotish! - Absolute level identification (Philosophical Jyotish towards realisation of Advaita Vedanta & Ajata Concept)
Stage 6. Consciousness is on Awareness
Stage 7. Reality lies beyond = "Tat or That" timeless, spaceless eternal Truth
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Another way of connecting the spiritual levels (3 levels mentioned in Nisargadattas's books Prior to Consciousness) to the planets:-
1. "ABSOLUTE" LEVEL - beyond consciousness..= NEW MOON (ie.Maha Sivaratri = dead mind of Reality. Note: Siva/lingam wears the serpent of Maya)
MAYA'S ignorance of VEILING POWER of KETHU (TAMA GUNA - I am the body idea) = Ego Body idea ranges from grossest level of Ascendant upto level of body of space (Jupiter) = sense of being
2. "I AM" LEVEL = Inner SUN (through the veiling power this pure I am-ness is reflected in spiritual heart centre of the body as the sense of Being but beyond the veiling power of Kethu as pure effulgence)
3. SPACE = JUPITER (element of ether of consciousness creating space in which the remaining 4 elements play)- related to sound and hearing
Sense of "I am" reflected in Pure mind of consciousness/prakriti = waking & waning MOON
(SATWA GUNA related to these above planets Sun & Moon & Jupiter but disturbed by the nodes to establish tama and raja gunas of remaining planets below)
PROJECTION POWER of RAHU (rajas - I am the mind) = desires, imagination and sense of time
5 ELEMENTS of Consciousness/Nature
Ether (Jupiter) = sound and hearing =>
Air & Karma (Saturn) ("reality" of time in relative life of space)= touch =>
Fire (Mars) = sight =>
Water (Venus) = taste =>
Earth (Mercury)= smell
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
APPENDIX 7
SEE the "D CHAKRA-PAEDIA PORTAL" at http://sai-chakrapaedia.blogspot.com for general knowledge compartmentalised into 7 portal "group topics" corresponding to a yogic astro-symbolic chakra blog
Note that once you know your chart and what is your planetary type or strongest planetary influence on chart (eg. a final depositorship in an angle) you could determine which of the 7 chakras you operate most from (eg. Mars in the 7th in Aries and being the final lord of all the planets would reveal a strong operation from the 3rd Power chakra of Determination (and the fight or flight gland, the adrenals, and chakra of effort and energy). There would be a strong drive for achievement, name, fame and power in such an individual.
Thus, from this example, you could note by observation and correlation whether the 3rd chakra portal on the sai-world-blog would reflect your particular interests in terms of astro-symbolism and related topics. The idea of the blog is with the growing interest in Yoga worldwide, a blog that can self-refer knowledge would make general knowledge more relevant to you and bring people towards the spiritual and "quantum" appreciation that knowledge depends on the observer. Such a blog would integrate general worldly knowledge with "spirituality" (ie. Sai Baba's unity of faiths and other spiritual teachers with world affairs); especially critical after the financial crisis and the need for a new value orientated paradigm. Internet statistics could be used if such a web site was developed to measure whether the number of clicks by members on such a site correlates to their "strongest planet/chakra. Only time will tell if "Jyotish" will, along with other indicators will become a part of mainstream life in the "extreme future".
SATHYA ASTROLOGICAL INITIATIVE (for Illumination through Jyotish)
An association of SAI devotees sincerely searching for the Truth through the lens light of Vedic Astrology. (SEE the post on JYOTISH RESOURCES for an exhaustive list of web links/sites on Jyotish)
Aim of Initiative
To help take the "relative" Jiva (the Soul as the embodied light of Consciousness) through the Advaita of Self-inquiry & Self-knowledge to Siva (the Absolute as the unmanifest Reality - the unknowing eternal state of Truth or Sathya) using the reflective, contemplative tool and medium of vedic astrology, psychology and philosophy.
Motto
Think Global, Act Local, Feel COSMIC, Serve Organic EARTH!
To change the world, change oneself and START to BE the change one seeks! Light the lamp of inner knowledge and KNOW THYSELF through Jyotish (the Eye of the Vedas); a psychological meta-science for self-knowledge, transformation and an "I(n)-sight" towards appreciating the Oneness of Nature (Prakriti) & Consciousness ( in Advaita Vedanta - "I am in the Light, the Light is in me, I am the Light - the JYOTISH (All is One).

Often, the result anyway, it is that they apply within relevant divisionals anyway. eg. a tight orb between planets in a grand trine falls into a conjunction in a navamsa chart.

Made worse by Sakata yoga (Jupiter in 6/8 relationship to Moon)
b)Deeper observed =>

4 Components => Initial Reading => Quantative => Qualitative
i) Sign => Tripod (Asc, Moon, Sun signs) => Vimshopaak (noting number of times planets repeats in own or exaltation signs), Sarva Ashtavarga => Avastha, pushkara etc.
ii) Planet => Angular => Shad Bala, Binna Ashtavarga => Retrogression, combustion, (leading to power of YOGAS to manifest)
iii) House => Lordship => Bhava Bala, Sarva Ashtavarga => Mid-house etc.
iv) Aspect => Own sign/lord => Ashtavarga Principles(points from natural Malefic vs Benefics) => 4 levels aspect (planetary, sign, argala, ashtavarga)

Also note that chart reading is on the foundation of fixed stars within nakshatra 13 1/3 degree bands and that Navamsa is the final harmonic that filters energies through into the 12 signs of the rasi.
Summary of Chart Order for Physical/Astral & Causal Levels
1.Ascendant axis & Sun => Body/Physical
2. 4th axis & Moon & Amk => Mind/Astral
(1st – 9th lord aspects from Ascendant, Moon, AK involving Jupiter => in Navamsa)
3. Navamsa-Pada-Nakshatra & AK/Jupiter/ Kethu/9th lord => Soul = Ak (atma or causal body)

- COMPONENT NINE -
18 EXAMPLE STEPS FOR READING NAVAMSA TOGETHER WITH RASI
Planets operate from cosmic Nakshatra level (27) through the Navamsa (9 padas) into the 12 Rasis (physical solar) via Karakamsa and Tulya Rasi
Note again:-
Ak = Causal (Jupiter and kethu relationship to Ak = expansion and release from consciousness)
Moon = Astral

Ascendant = Physique

Use above rules on Ayurdaya as well as look for confluence between indicators below. Note different indicators and rules between Parasara and Jaimini.
Timing of Death
Indicators:
ii. 8TH HOUSE & LORD & MARS for longevity (as in Ayurdaya rules).

Ability to study Jyotish;
http://ahimsazr1.wordpress.com/2007/10/19/ability-to-study-and-practise-jyotisha/
http://www.indiadivine.org/audarya/vedic-astrology-jyotisha/293280-combinations-astrologers.html
http://www.jyotish.ws/wisdom/combinations_astrologer.html

"Star" based Dasa Systems
1) VIMSOTTARI "star" dasa variations eg. From Moon vs Ascendant Nakshatra vs Kendra Dasa ie. when more than 4 planets in kendras (Most useful general "Mahadasa" system for kali yuga) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dasha_(astrology)
=> MOOLA DASA (Lagna Kendradi Graha Dasa) http://www.scribd.com/doc/259993/10-Moola-Dasa
http://www.scribd.com/doc/31047047/Sanjay-Rath-Vimsottari-and-Udu-Dasas
2) ASHTOTTARI DASA (108 years) - useful to compare against Vimsotarri dasa for negative against positive predictions.
3) YOGINI Dasa http://www.scribd.com/doc/20167631/An-Introduction-to-the-Yogini-Dash1,
"Sign" Based Dasa Systems
4) NARAYANA Dasa http://www.scribd.com/doc/288611/Analysing-Narayana-Dasa,

Use Divisionals to fine tune from Moon, Ascendant, Ak.

iv. Ashtaavarga system & values (used with transits).
v. Prasna charts (often used with transits)
vi. Varsphal (solar annual) and planetary returns (eg. Saturn 29th year)

Fire (Mars) = sight =>
Water (Venus) = taste =>
Earth (Mercury)= smell

Being born and raised in the Midwestern portion of the United States, I grew up with the Western astrology with which most of us are familiar. As I grew more interested in astrology, however, I began to hear more and more about the predictive power of Vedic astrology.
